As we close out October, or Reformation Month, I will be preparing a message for the first Wednesday night service in October.
The topic is “Semper Reformanda,” or “Always Reforming.” The phrase is linked back to a 1674 devotional by Jodocus van Lodenstein; the full phrase is “ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda secundum verbi Dei.”
The full phrase meaning, “The church reformed, always reforming under the Word of God.”
The Church at the dawn of the Reformation was in a dark place. I was telling a friend, the equivalent in our day would be Benny Hinn having an army and murdering people who didn’t believe in his “miracles.” While we also live in a dark day, I don’t know that we face the same physical threats.
Spiritually, we may actually be in a worse spot. At that time, Christians weren’t afraid to call out heresy and apostasy. In our day, we are called legalists and bigots if we dare address the elephant in the room: most of what parades as Christianity isn’t.
I’m looking forward to this message. Last week, one of the elders gave his part of the Five Solas and it geared me up. It was so good. I knew I had to do better than I did before.
Switching Browsers
I’ve been using Brave for some time. I enjoy the ad blocker but I’m tired of the lack of integration with Apple’s ecosystem. I’m over having to have an external password manager; Apple has one built in for me, so I’ll just depend on that. I’d be curious to hear from anyone else who’s switched over to Safari after using something else. I imagine I’ll have a bit of a learning curve.
